Nature of Work
The Gates Biomanufacturing Facility has an opening for a full-time Tech Transfer Scientist for the Cell Therapy Process Development and Manufacturing team. The Gates Biomanufacturing Facility is an academic cGMP manufacturing facility dedicated to the development and manufacture of novel biological therapies for early phase human clinical trials. This position will be responsible for leading process development operations related to iPSC-based therapeutics at the Gates Biomanufacturing Facility. Responsibilities include leading technical transfer of processes and analytical methods between client and GBF, as well as between GBF process development to GMP manufacturing.
This position requires experience related to general cell biology, molecular biology and aseptic cell culture manipulations with an emphasis on iPSC.
This position reports directly to the Senior Scientist - Cell Therapy at the Gates Biomanufacturing Facility.
This position will not have direct reports.
Examples of Work Performed:
Technical lead for the transfer of projects into the facility, from process development to manufacturing scale.
Assist in monitoring and maintaining processing and testing equipment, facilities, and supplies. This will include routine handling and lifting of laboratory supplies, and bench-top equipment and regular cleaning of facility, supplies, and equipment.
Document experiments using Good Documentation Practices.
Perform aseptic cell culture on a routine basis.
Perform aseptic processes in the cGMP clean room.
Assist in authoring sections of Development and Production Reports, Batch Production records, and CMC sections of INDs.
Maintain laboratory notebooks, logs, inventories, and computer databases.
Manage tasks to meet project expectations related to timelines, budget, and quality.
Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clients.
Work in a professional and collaborative manner with coworkers and clients.
Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $49,000 to $100,000. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Master’s Degree with 3-5 years experience or PhD with 1-3 years experience in Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or related field.
At least 1-3 years of experience skin cell biology.
Direct experience with iPSC research is preferred.
Experience with GLP/GMP systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Generation and maintenance of human iPSC lines.
Experience with human keratinocytes and skin biology is a plus.
Experience with common laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, and primary cell culture
Experience preparing batch production records is a plus.
