Boulder Community Hospital EHR Principal Trainer III in Boulder, Colorado

Full Time, Days. EHR Principal Trainer III

Starting rate of $39.74 per hour, additional consideration based on years of experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The EHR Principal Trainer delivers learning and organizational development interventions to effectively on-board, train, coach, and measure performance of staff in meeting established organizational goals. Work is focused on developing and delivering systems, workflow and technology training to employees and physicians who use the Health Care Electronic Medical Records, specifically Epic (EMR) systems and other clinical/reporting systems or technologies on an on-going basis, as well as consulting with staff to provide systems or technology training services to access, revenue, clinical and ambulatory staff.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Level 1 – Credentialed Trainer

Education or Formal Training

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Healthcare, Education, or Information Technology, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree preferred.

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

Credentialed Trainer certification is required within 4 months of position start. All applicable certifications must remain in good standing while in position.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

  • Develops and delivers Epic and related third-party training initiatives to a defined group of users. Conducts classroom, one-on-one, and virtual training as needed.

  • Masters assigned Epic applications and related workflows to develop audience-specific training, including classroom, print, virtual, and computer-based curriculum.

  • Organizes end-user training schedules and registration.

  • Provides elbow and virtual end user support as needed.

  • Regularly tests and modifies training materials as needed and ensures the timely communication of relevant changes to end users.

  • Create class schedules in LMS, work with customers to ensure the timely education of new hire and transfers within BCH.

  • Regularly rounds with end users to evaluate proficiency of system use and to identify areas of improvement.

  • Displays enthusiasm for serving others.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends and occasional overnight travel in support of customers or major projects.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Visio, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

    Experience

    Must have experience or relevant education in at least one of the following areas: general education/training, Epic or other EHR system build, healthcare, or IT.

    Level 2 – Principal Trainer 1

    Education or Formal Training

    Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Healthcare, Education, or Information Technology, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree required.

    Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

    Existing Epic certification is preferred, and any new applicable certification is required within 4 months of position start. All applicable certifications must remain in good standing while in position.

    Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

  • All requirements of Level 1 EHR Trainer

  • Develops curriculum and delivers training for credentialed trainers.

  • Assists in the development of super users and helps plan super user support.

  • Works closely with IT leadership, customer leadership, and subject matter experts to ensure training is appropriately structured to satisfy a broad range of training audience requirements.

  • Leads the building, testing, and maintenance of training environments.

  • Serves as a team learning management system administrator.

  • Acts as a liaison between end users and the Epic build team to enhance training processes.

  • Generates enthusiasm with team members, end users, and partners in support of change management efforts.

  • Leads others to adhere to established industry best practices, standards, and quality.

  • Manages Continuing Education program for all assigned applications.

  • Lead projects as assigned

    Experience

  • All requirements of Level 1 EHR Trainer

  • One to three years of experience is required in at least one or a combination of the following areas: Epic education/training, Epic system build, or healthcare education.

  • Previous teaching/training experience is required.

  • Healthcare experience preferred

  • Experience as an Epic end user or super user preferred.

  • Existing Epic proficiency or certification preferred.

    Level 3 – Principal Trainer 2

    Education or Formal Training

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Healthcare, Education, or Information Technology, required.

  • MBA, MHA, MEd preferred

    Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

    Existing Epic certification is required, and any new applicable certification is required within 4 months of position start. All applicable certifications must remain in good standing while in position.

    Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

  • All requirements of Level 2 EHR Trainer

  • Assigned special projects and greater number or more complex applications than Level 1 and 2 EHR Trainers, and effectively balances workload while meeting customer and IT needs.

  • Serves as mentor to Level 1 and 2 Principal Trainers.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in adult learning theory and Epic education best practices.

  • Helps establish team processes and procedures and proactively identifies opportunities for improvement.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment.

  • Demonstrates adaptability/flexibility skills: Demonstrating flexibility with respect to changing end-user business needs

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills: The ability and willingness to see things in an open-minded way and examine an idea or concept from as many angles as possible

  • Demonstrates dependability/Meets Deadlines: The ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure that they are completed in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner while managing multiple priorities

  • Demonstrates initiative: The ability and willingness to recognize assignments or tasks that need to be completed, to seek out additional assignments or tasks, and to help others

  • Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills: The ability to communicate information clearly and concisely with project leadership and subject matter experts

    Experience
  • All requirements of Level 2 EHR Trainer

  • 3-5 years of experience in Epic education/training is required.

  • Previous Epic Principal Trainer experience is required.

  • Existing Epic certification is required.

  • Healthcare education experience required

  • Experience as an Epic end user or super user preferred.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • May require sitting at a desk and a computer or standing in a classroom for up to 8 hours

  • Physical working environment may include, but not limited to the following hazards: chemical, electronic, mechanical, bio-waste, explosive, radiation, etc.

  • Environmental conditions may include, but not limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc.
