The Salesforce Technical Lead - identifies, researches, develops, and implements complex SFDC solutions that have significant value (innovation, efficiency, competitive advantage) for the business. The Technical Lead SFDC has expert knowledge in SFDC and other systems that impact either the business channel supported or the overall enterprise. The Technical Lead SFDC then works with other IT teams to provide project-level development support, knowledge transfer, and the integration of new technologies into the T. Rowe Price (TRP) technical architecture and process framework. The Technical Lead SFDC acts independently or as a member of a project team responsible for providing technical and business process guidance concerning the business implications of the application to various systems and provides technical consulting on complex projects. The Technical Lead SFDC mentors or leads in the development of architectures and strategies for major SFDC projects. This would also include reviewing other applications and enhancements to ensure that they follow the overall system design.


Expert in SFDC and demonstrates technical competency of one or more complex systems. Partners with IT and Business Product Owners to develop, influence and execute technical strategy in keeping with the strategic direction of TRP IT. Uses technology and tools to demonstrate their potential value, and develops and implements solutions, which includes the support of installing, configuring, coding, testing, and deploying complex technical solutions. Acts as a technical lead or as a consultant on complex SFDC projects with a broad scope of impact for the organization. Develops and approves technical design that assist with the adoption of new technologies. This may include project definition and investigation; coordination of vendor selection and Request for Proposal (RFP) processes; requirements gathering; development; testing; and configuration. Provides guidance with configuration, coding, or design techniques. Mentors developers and analysts regarding technology, programming standards, and assists them in the resolution of complex technical issues. Trains developers and analysts on a particular business technology. Provides thought leadership and stays current on SFDC and other new technologies relevant to TRP’s strategic directions. Prepares presentations, whitepapers, proposals, and sample applications that demonstrate how new technologies can be leveraged by the firm. Conducts technical research on technology trends and advances that have the potential to be applied to the business of TRP. Applies this research to the creation of recommendations, prototypes, and solutions in support of business and technical goals and objectives. Produces white papers, proof of concepts, and demonstrations that show the value of technology for the business. Works with project management to lead the planning of implementation and enhancement efforts. Assists in the development of staffing requirements and resource needs for technology efforts and recommends skill sets that should be represented based on the nature and scope of the project.



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field and 5+ years of related work experience

  • 5+ years of current SFDC development (VisualForce and Apex), configuration experience

  • 5+ years of systems design, programming, implementation and integration experience

  • 2+ years of demonstrated advanced major design initiatives

  • Active Salesforce certifications: Salesforce Certified Advanced Administrator and Salesforce Certified Advanced Developer

  • Expert skills in advanced technologies and solutions relevant to multi-channel business management, sales, service, and marketing teams

  • Enterprise SFDC development, integration and implementation experience

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills (must be able to effectively work with people in the team, other IT departments, people in the business, consulting companies, and senior executives)

  • Agile Scrum development methodology and experience

  • Familiarity with distributed computer systems and cloud-based platforms

  • Off-hour implementations and deployments required

  • Proficient in SQL and Relational Database Concepts and Design

  • Web Service Technologies (SOAP, REST) and integration of Services into Salesforce

  • Detailed knowledge of SFDC data modeling

  • Advise project teams and clients on best practices for security, privacy, compliance and considerations, and governance of SFDC data and applications

  • Strong Business Acumen and demonstrated successful experience implementing technology solutions resulting in significant impact to the business

  • Proven ability to act in a consultative manner to both IT and the business regarding the scope and impact of decisions regarding technology and its impact to the business

  • Experience and understanding of project management and control, and risk analysis

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience integrating new 3rd party applications into a SFDC enterprise environment

  • Adaptable and able to learn quickly

  • Ability to turn requirements into code

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail


  • 3+ years of experience with web development (HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, Ajax)

  • Salesforce Certified Technical Architect

  • Salesforce Certified Sales Consultant

  • Salesforce Certified Service Consultant

  • Experience with Web and Enterprise Content Management tools, and Web Services/SOA preferred

  • Experience in integrating Salesforce with Marketing platforms and telephony systems

  • Experience with data migrations to Salesforce

  • Proficiency in Informatica Cloud and other ETL tools

  • Experience using SFDC Data Loader, and DemandTools

  • Experience estimating development effort and scope

  • Experience working in other multiple technology environments

  • Java / J2EE – nice to have, to understand from integration perspective with other applications

  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, HTTP, SMTP, SSL, SSO, SAML, proxies and firewalls
