Under limited supervision and with an emphasis on safety and Cobham SPIRIT values, perform a variety of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Operator tasks, from periodic to frequent, and from simple to complex, related to the assembly and inspection of SMT electronic circuit card assemblies.

  • Primary activities include the ability to set up, operate and shut down SMT machines and equipment including screen printers, pick and place machines, reflow ovens and wash equipment. Position and secures boards in fixtures or machine tables.

  • Load proper programs and modifications as required. Including the initiation and selection of the correct program for SMT screen printer, pick and place machines and reflow oven profile.

  • Monitor equipment during runs ensuring proper function throughout the production process. Observe proper machine operation and verify conformance of completed assembly to specifications.

  • Perform machine preventative maintenance based on assigned schedules.

  • Follow prints and sample assemblies or take verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed

  • Understanding of the following:

  • Electronic Components, Electronics Design, Manufacturing Production Processes, Equipment And Tools Associated With Printed Circuit Board Assembly, Execution of Material Traceability and Lot Code Control

  • Knowledge of the following:

  • Bill Of Materials, Assembly Drawings, Product Specific Documentation, Work Instructions, Process Sheets, Kit Pick Lists

  • Use of Moisture Sensitive Device (MSD) handling requirements based on component moisture sensitive levels (MSL)

  • Perform machine preventative maintenance based on assigned schedules

  • Monitor machines and equipment ensuring proper functionality throughout the production process.

  • Verify conformance of completed assembly to specifications.

  • Load proper programs and modifications as required. Including the initiation and selection of the correct program for SMT screen printer, pick and place machines and reflow oven profile.

  • Set up and shut down machines, fixtures or feeding devices including, but not limited to, pick and place, screen printer, reflow oven, and wash equipment, stencil cleaning machine.

  • Adhere to all ESD requirements and Board Handling.

  • Support all Corporate and Site Continuous Improvement, LEAN and 6S, objectives.

    • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ experience preferred in either PWB, through hole soldering, hot air pencil solder, SMT soldering, etc.

  • Training to industry standards (IPC, J-Std, NASA, etc) – preferred

  • Experience with MyData machines and platforms – preferred

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.

  • Flexibility in work hours, limited overtime may be required.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, required

  • Attention to detail, required

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; including ability to read and interpret documents and instructions such as safety, operating and maintenance manuals.

  • Proficient in the full suite of Microsoft Office™ products - Excel, Word, Visio, Power Point, Project.

Salary Range: $13.91 - $18.26 per hour
