Position DescriptionThe primary purpose of the Corrosion Technician is to operate and maintain thecathodic protection (CP) facilities through planning and implementation ofcorrosion control activities for pipelines, tanks, and other facilities,including design, installation, operation, and maintenance. TheCorrosion Technician must also ensure compliance with company policies,procedures as well as federal and state regulations.Design, install, operate and maintain rectifiers and groundbeds forcathodic protection.Maintain rectifiers which protect tanks externally with impressed current.Maintain a sacrificial anode system.Supervise contract crews coating pipelines and tanks and installing various CPsystems.Supervise and/or Conduct CIS surveys and analyze data learned. Followanalysis of data with any remedial actions needed.Conduct coating inspections and repairs on pipelines and tanks.Use ultrasonic thickness testing to determine metal integrity on piping andtanks.Locate lines with line finder.Repair printed circuit boards, alarm modules, and rectifier stacks.Installation and maintenance of CP test stations, pipeline and aerial markers.Repair buried negatives.Supervise contract crews on new groundbed installations and complete requiredpaperwork.Periodic surveys using DOT criteria to insure proper CP protection.Assist management in planning future budget needs for CP improvements.Assist with all regulatory inspections.Maintain Operator Qualifications (OQ).Utilize company systems and applications for tracking and documentinginspections.Complete special projects and annual objectives as assigned.Maintain a regular and dependable attendance, and high level of performance.Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets andemployees, and the general public.Performs other related duties as assigned.Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets.Position RequirementsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving recordsatisfactory to the company and its insurers.Experience, Specific Knowledge, Certification, & Licenses:Minimum 5 years experience in pipeline or related operations.Self-starter and high drive for results.Must be able to handle multiple tasks.Competencies & Skills:Exercise skill in the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of cathodicprotection facilities.Plan, organize, and oversee assigned work programs.Analyze and evaluate operations; develop and implement corrective action toresolve problems.Use senses of sight, hearing, and smell to aid in the identification ofsystems and equipment malfunction.Distinguish basic colors.Physically perform the essential job functions.In order to meet the various maintenance and general operationalrequirements, a mechanical aptitude is necessary.Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment andconsistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude withco-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Wordand Outlook.Well-balanced interpersonal skills and demonstrable verbal and writtencommunication skills.Must be accountable and take direction from supervisors, keep required workschedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.Mustbe a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.Working Conditions:Physical demands- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkwardpositions, and 50 pounds from floor to waist.Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb verticalaccess ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50 pounds.Must be able to communicate effectively.May drive a 4-wheeled vehicle several hours per day.
