Job Role and Responsibility

VMware is looking for a Member of Technical Staff interested in joining the Performance Team to work on VMWare’s pioneering, machine assisted self-driven software defined data center project. As an engineer with the Performance Team you'll integrate performance considerations at the hardware, hypervisor, guest OS layers into an overall understanding of why various applications perform as they do, and then to communicate what is learned to the appropriate stakeholders. You'll partner with both performance engineers and software developers to improve core products, develop best practices, author blogs and whitepapers, and present internally, at conferences, and directly to partners and customers. You¹ll be part of a bright engineering team that has an open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork and customer success culture.

Required Skills

  • A Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field with 1-3 years of relevant experience

  • Exposure to data analytics and machine learning

  • Demonstrable of operating system internals and computer architecture

  • Proficiency in Python, GO, or Java

  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix

  • Aptitude for performance engineering R&D and large distributed systems

  • Excellent analytical and debugging skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Basic hypervisor system administration skills.

  • Knowledge of systems performance and the storage domain

  • Work experience in system software development, testing and performance engineering

  • Experience or interest in building software with continuous integration and deployment

This role is fully remote and can be done anywhere in California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, or Washington. U nfortunately, we are unable to offer relocation assistance on this occasion.

“For positions located in Colorado: The base salary range is ($82,000 - $139,000). Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position. Additional benefits for this position can be found at . *Note: Disclosure of Colorado pay and benefits required per sb19-085.”
