POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under general supervision, competently performs all standard and non-standard engineering systems support functions for Parsons engineering systems (ES). Independently analyzes questions, issues and problems arising in the use of engineering systems and selects solutions based on an independent evaluation of the situation and sound technical judgment. Investigates and solves recurring engineering application issues to promote a stable and reliable computing environment. May provide training to ES software and systems users and assist in the preparation of technical documentation.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Has an extensive knowledge of engineering and design systems and/or ES collaboration systems as well as design applications architecture, functionality and delivery through the Parsons application delivery system (ParStream™) or the ProjectWise™ engineering collaboration environment.

Coordinates migration of freestanding ES systems and entities to the Parsons application delivery system (ParStream™).

Provides support in the delivery, administration, customization and maintenance of a new engineering or design application in the area where they have specialized knowledge.

Provides ongoing support for freestanding ES engineering, design and collaboration systems.

Provides technical guidance to accommodate engineering and design work sharing that meet Parsons current and projected business requirements.

Troubleshoots application stability and functionality. Identifies issues, questions and problems for enterprise engineering systems, recommends and implements the solutions.

Identifies requirements for applications to be distributed via Parsons application delivery system (ParStream™) and coordinates implementation with end user, requester and ES team.

Identifies technical requirements and user needs; develops recommendations to modify or upgrade existing hardware to assure the efficient operation of ES systems.

Possesses a broad knowledge of a specific ES-related technologies and applications (E.g., CAD, CIE GIS).

May provide technical guidance to less experienced staff members.

Works closely as a team player to assist with enterprise-wide system upgrades

May assist Engineering Specialist and Senior Specialist in performing standard tasks (E.g., coordinating system upgrades with end users, providing off hours support or assisting with licensing tasks).

Acts as liaison between vendors and end users when dealing with issues, questions or problems that require direct support from the vendor.

Provides training for end users in general ES applications and systems.

May work with clients, subcontractors and business partners to maintain and troubleshoot shared ES systems.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-year or 4-year degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related technical discipline, with experience in both engineering and IT.

  • 8+years of progressive experience working with engineering systems (CAD, CIE, GIS) or engineering collaboration application systems (ProjectWise™), or supporting specific projects that employ ES-related tools and applications.

  • Application Packaging experience using tools such as Installshield, Adminstudio, SCCM, Numecent Cloudpaging, App-V, Citrix preferred. Virtualization/application streaming deployment tools is a plus.

Certifications:

One or more of the following certifications preferred: Vendor certifications (E.g., Autodesk, Bentley, Intergraph and ESRI). Microsoft Windows Operating systems (E.g., Microsoft Certified Engineer), SQL or similar certfications.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of computer aided engineering, tools and methodology (CAD, CIE and GIS Applications).

  • Knowledge of engineering and design collaboration systems [ProjectWise™] as well as design applications architecture, functionality and delivery.

  • Ability to develop and use standard workflows to facilitate the delivery of engineering systems

  • Experienced in the installation and commissioning of specialized engineering and analysis applications to meet project specific requirements.

  • A thorough understanding of applicable project software applications and technology to meet specific GBU requirements.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Written and oral communication skills appropriate for the position, including the ability to speak very well in basic professional situations and present technical data in a logical manner that is easy to understand (may include communication via telephone, in person, or presenting to small groups).

  • Ability to write moderately complex documents (may include emails, memos, procedures, presentations). Communicates with a wide variety of individuals (employees and managers) throughout the organization and outside of the organization (i.e. clients, vendors).
