Description of Job
This position is a hybrid position combining Visitor Services Technician and Park Maintenance Technician positions that perform a wide variety of jobs. Two days per week in this role are dedicated to maintenance and two days per week are dedicated to working the Entrance Station.
When working in the entrance station you are the face of our park and make a difference educating our visitors! When doing maintenance you will be doing a wide variety of jobs throughout the park. These range from trail maintenance, mending fences, weed control, working with groups to do community service projects to cleaning facilities. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Sell park passes, hunting/fishing licenses, and enter revenue totals on CPW's internet web system
Work directly with park visitors to greet and orientate them with the park.
Provide information and assistance to park visitors (distributes maps/ brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, etc.)
Answer questions about local wildlife, historical, cultural, and park history.
Monitor patrol radios and communicate important information to park staff.
May receive and pass along to supervisor visitor complaints.
May assist with special events or programs within the park.
Operates and performs routine maintenance on state owned vehicles and equipment.
Assures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness.
Provides information and assistance to visitors.
May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies.
Leading community service project groups
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position.
Must possess and maintain a current and valid drivers' license.
Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications
Must be willing and able to work 32 hours per week.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
Must be able to lift 75-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday.
Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite)
May be required to work the entrance station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch in the station.
Some uniform items will be provided, however employees will be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.
Previous experience handling money and working with the public is helpful.
Experience with data entry, word processing, website management is preferred.
Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.
Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
