U.S. Army Medical Command Medical Instrument Technician (POLYSOMNOGRAPHY) in Fort Carson, Colorado

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Medicine, Neurology Clinic at Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado and independently conducts a variety of polysomnography tests for adults and pediatrics. Responsibilities Conducts polysomnograms and CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) trials on patients in the sleep laboratory. Operates polysomnographic recording instruments to obtain an electroencephalographic record of a patient's sleep. Prepares the patient for tests by reassuring the patient, providing basic education concerning the nature of the testing, allaying fears, or misconceptions. Performs operator maintenance of all sleep laboratory equipment and requests maintenance on equipment that he/she cannot maintain as needed. Independently prepares, calibrates, interfaces, and operates all equipment used in polysomnographic procedures. Independently interprets data obtained from all night recording. Incumbent will perform operator maintenance of EEG equipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in center and home sleep apnea testing; diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; AND operating, monitoring and maintaining equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Licensure/Certification: A certified Polysomnography Technologist, Preferred Registration by the Board of Polysomnography Technologists (BRPT) is highly desired but not required. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
