The Alaka’ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Laboratory Technician to provide laboratory technical services to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Vector Borne Diseases (DVBD) Arboviral Diseases Branch (ADB) out of Fort Collins, CO.
Producing arboviral diagnostic reagents, arboviral antigens, antibodies, cell lines, strains and media using requested procedures.
Validating arboviral diagnostic reagents and ensuring quality of arboviral antigens, antibodies, cell lines, strains and media using requested procedures.
Curating arboviruses and their reagents: arboviral antigens, antibodies, cell lines, strains and media using requested procedures.
Distributing arboviruses and their reagents: arboviral antigens, antibodies, cell lines, strains and media using requested procedures.
Participating in meetings and conference calls by preparing and presenting data and answering technical questions.
Responding to arboviral and other infectious disease outbreaks by conducting laboratory diagnostic testing on samples from clinicians and state and local health departments and distribution of reagents to national and international partners.
Performing physical and virtual inventory of laboratory products to include supplies, equipment and diagnostic samples.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have experience recording testing results and performing inventory for the lab.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have strong problem-solving skills along with outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must have an energetic team presence with an eagerness to learn and collaborate with other members of the communications team.
Must be able to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
Must have strong skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Prior CDC, public health, or healthcare experience is desired.
Highly Desired: Bachelors degree and 5 years minimum experience performing laboratory procedures to produce and validate diagnostic reagents.
Highly Desired: Experience recording testing results and performing inventory for the lab.
Ability to communicate in writing and verbally is desired.
Ability to manage data and possess an in-depth knowledge or Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is desired.
- Must have at least a bachelor's degree.
