The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
A Research Technician position is available in NREL’s Chemistry and Nanoscience Center to explore vapor-phase materials growth using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE-CVD). Both silicon and other semiconductor nanoparticle materials will be grown for use in batteries and related energy storage concepts. Experiments will be conducted under the direction of staff scientists, and key tasks include operating and maintaining the PE-CVD vapor-phase growth equipment. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Environment, Health, & Safety team to follow safe work procedures, as well as to handle sample material and waste in a clean, well-organized fashion. Attention to detail and a focus on safety given the potentially high hazard nature of the work are essential attributes for successful candidates.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Substantial acquaintance with and understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job. Intermediate to advanced skills in research techniques and practices. Good written, verbal, team, interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with vacuum-based vapor-phase growth systems.
