Description of Job
Inspects incoming and outgoing boats for Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS). Inspections include contacting incoming and outgoing boaters and physically and visually inspecting boats and all associated bo ating equipment. Based on information gathered during the contact and inspection determines if the boat is safe to launch. If a boat is unsafe to launch, follows established policies and procedures for further inspections and decontaminations. Must o perate handheld tablets to record data as required.
Inspectors are required to utilize equipment such as pressure washers, hand tools, and a shop vac on a daily basis and are required to wear personal protective equipment. This position must c lean and perform light maintenance in inspection areas (interior & exterior) in addition to performing other equipment, facility and ground maintenance duties as needed.
This position requires daily interaction with park visitors that requires effective communication and public relations skills.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Must possess a current and valid driver's license or have reliable transportation.
Must be able to work outdoors and on weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
Must be able to climb in and out of vessels, and under trailers.
Strong customer service and communication skills required.
Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position.
Possess strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral).
Must be enthusiastic, organized, and self-motivated
Ability to work with little supervision.
Able and willing to do data entry on tablets and computers
May be required to work at the ANS station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch at the station.
Attend and successfully complete required inspector training upon hire
School schedules may be accommodated.
Some uniform items will be provided, however, employees will be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Ability to perceive color differences and to hear verbal and radio communications.
