REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. or M.S. Metallurgical or Materials Engineering
Basic knowledge of metallurgy and metal forming with good problem solving skills
Experience in the performance of mechanical testing and metallography
Good problem solving (including root cause analysis), statistical analysis and planning skills
Basic understanding of failure analysis and fractography
Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a plus
Knowledge of six sigma is a plus
Auditing training a plus
Knowledge of machining processing and programming a plus

responsibilities:
Responsible for the integrity of all testing and test results in the metallurgical laboratory
Develop and/or improve lab testing practices
Identify new laboratory test equipment, testing methods, and technologies
Responsible for assisting the Product Metallurgist with all testing and evaluations performed in the metlab to include rail, rod and tube products
Support Process Technology and R&D development and process improvement efforts through assistance with experimentation and material evaluation
Participate in trials and material testing through communication with the respective mill, metallurgy laboratory staff and/or developing testing protocols as needed
Assist with customer complaint investigations to include failure analysis as needed
Work to improve laboratory testing efficiency and reduce time from sample acquisition to reporting
Assist in the development of mechanical and metallographic test protocols for development of material and/or commercial grades of rail, rod and seamless tubing as needed
Utilize statistical tools, subsequent to six sigma green belt training, to ensure robust laboratory test data is produced (MSA) and monitored per statistical process control techniques
Assist in the implementation of SPC in the metlab
Monitor test results to identify variation or process upsets and report to quality and operations
Basic understanding of the requirements of national and international tubular, rail and rod product and testing standards and related customer specifications

For Colorado Residents Only: The hourly range for Colorado residents is $15.00 to $25.00/hour.
