REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or M.S. Metallurgical or Materials Engineering

  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy and metal forming with good problem solving skills

  • Experience in the performance of mechanical testing and metallography

  • Good problem solving (including root cause analysis), statistical analysis and planning skills

  • Basic understanding of failure analysis and fractography

  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a plus

  • Knowledge of six sigma is a plus

  • Auditing training a plus

  • Knowledge of machining processing and programming a plus

responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the integrity of all testing and test results in the metallurgical laboratory

  • Develop and/or improve lab testing practices

  • Identify new laboratory test equipment, testing methods, and technologies

  • Responsible for assisting the Product Metallurgist with all testing and evaluations performed in the metlab to include rail, rod and tube products

  • Support Process Technology and R&D development and process improvement efforts through assistance with experimentation and material evaluation

  • Participate in trials and material testing through communication with the respective mill, metallurgy laboratory staff and/or developing testing protocols as needed

  • Assist with customer complaint investigations to include failure analysis as needed

  • Work to improve laboratory testing efficiency and reduce time from sample acquisition to reporting

  • Assist in the development of mechanical and metallographic test protocols for development of material and/or commercial grades of rail, rod and seamless tubing as needed

  • Utilize statistical tools, subsequent to six sigma green belt training, to ensure robust laboratory test data is produced (MSA) and monitored per statistical process control techniques

  • Assist in the implementation of SPC in the metlab

  • Monitor test results to identify variation or process upsets and report to quality and operations

  • Basic understanding of the requirements of national and international tubular, rail and rod product and testing standards and related customer specifications

For Colorado Residents Only: The hourly range for Colorado residents is $15.00 to $25.00/hour.
