Read onto learn more!Position OverviewThe Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for performing basic preventativemaintenance on machinery, equipment, and tools, and assists othermembers of the Maintenance Department in various machine/building repairs.Works under immediate supervision; relies on specific direction andinstructions.Principal Duties / ResponsibilitiesPerforms regular, preventative maintenance on all machinery, equipment,tools and building.Assists in repair of woodworking machinery, infeed/outfeed systems, handtools and forklifts in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals andmanufacturer specifications.Orders supplies and parts as required.Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled.Maintains records of repair and maintenance activities.Performs duties consistent with established safety rules and procedures.Maintains a clean and organized work areaParticipates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings.If assigned to Treating Department, performs duties consistent withhazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures and practices.Prepares various reports as required.Performs other duties as required.QualificationsKnowledgeHigh school diplomaMinimum 1 year of experience in machine repair in maintenance.Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and control technology, andwelding.Working knowledge of safe equipment practices and applicable laws, rules andregulations.Demonstrate working knowledge of hazardous waste and hazardous materialhandling procedures and practicesMust be at least 18 years of age.Skills and abilitiesAbility to understand and use basic math and numbers, and to use a computerand a calculator.Demonstrates ability to follow specific instructions and directionsDemonstrates ability to read blue prints, technical diagrams, andoperating manuals.Demonstrates ability to use precision measuring instruments or tools, and touse manual tools.Ability to understand verbal and written instructions in English; abilityread and write EnglishAbility to identify safety issues in their work areaAbility to work under immediate supervisionAbility to pass a drug testAbility to work hours mandated by managementConductSafety consciousTeam player and goal orientedLeads by exampleParticipates in Safety and CI programsLooks for ways to improve productivity and department resultsUniversal Forest Products and its subsidiaries and affiliates are equalopportunity employers.
